Additive Manufacturing and 3D Printing Market in Russia: Overview and Key Trends

Additive technologies are increasingly used in high-tech industries, and metal 3D printing is strengthening its position in mechanical engineering, energy, aviation, and the oil and gas sector

Additive technologies are used in a variety of industries, from medicine and education to automotive, aviation, energy, and mechanical engineering. The use of 3D printing increases efficiency in the development, production, operation and disposal stages of products, reduces the cost of making blanks and subsequent machining, reduces waste and speeds up the production and repair of components.

 

For industries related to welding, cladding and metal processing, metal additive manufacturing is of the greatest interest. According to a study by Business Profile, the share of metal 3D printing in the global market of additive technologies is 54%. Metal 3D printing is in demand where the geometry of the part or the requirements for its physical properties limit the use of traditional metalworking methods.

 

If we look at the industry structure of the world market, the main consumers of additive technologies remain the automotive industry with a share of 30%, aviation and engine building — 21%, and medicine — 18%.

 

In Russia, the picture is different: here the largest share falls on the space industry - 26%, followed by aviation and engine building - 23%, as well as oil and gas engineering - 19%.

 

According to Business Profile, by the beginning of 2024, more than 150 enterprises related to additive technologies were operating in Russia, and about 60 of them specialized in metal printing. At the same time, not only the market itself grew, but also the practical load of such companies: the number of orders for the production of products using additive technologies was 35% higher than in 2022. It is also important that this area is developing not only within large industrial groups and state corporations, but also at the expense of specialized technology companies.

 

According to Strategy Partners, in 2022, Russian manufacturers occupied 54% of the domestic market, and in 2023 their share increased to 70%. This indicates the expansion of local supply and the gradual strengthening of Russian solutions in the segment of equipment and related technologies.

 

At the end of 2025, the volume of the Russian additive technologies market reached 22.3 billion rubles, which is 21% higher than the previous year. The main volume fell on equipment - 11.8 billion rubles. The segment of materials for 3D printing formed 5.4 billion rubles, another 5 billion rubles were provided by services. Industry experts also note that today localized equipment is already available in almost all key areas of the market, and the overall level of local production reaches about 59%. The largest share of localization is noticeable in the segment of materials for 3D printing. State support plays a role in the development of this area.

 

According to the forecast of the Association for the Development of Additive Technologies, the market will continue to grow in the medium term. In the baseline scenario, the average annual dynamics in 2024–2030 is estimated at 4.2%, in the target scenario — at 7.9%, in the innovation scenario — at 21.2%. By 2030, the market may reach 58 billion rubles.

 

Metal additive manufacturing technologies are in demand in the industry, including electric arc growing, selective laser melting and direct laser growing. They are used for layer-by-layer formation of complex parts, the manufacture of products for high-tech industries, and in some cases, for the restoration and repair of components. Additive equipment is also actively implemented by leading universities and research organizations.

 

Another important factor in the development of the market is standardization. Rosstandart has approved three new national standards in the field of additive manufacturing developed by the enterprises of the Rosatom Fuel Division. They will come into force on July 1, 2026. We are talking about GOST R 72500-2025, GOST R 72501-2025 and GOST R 72499-2025, which set the technical characteristics and requirements for the production of titanium and steel wire, as well as metal powders from stainless steel for 3D printing.

These are practical tools that can be used in hardfacing applications, reconditioning, working with wires and metal powders, as well as integrating robotic solutions into the production circuit.
